1898～1947) 日本小说家。 生于福岛县东山温泉，原籍大分县宇佐郡长峰村。其父是土木工程师，被派赴朝鲜工作期间,横光在母亲的家乡三重县阿山郡度过童年。他初期的习作，大多写这一带的田园风光。1916年入早稻田大学预科,未毕业即离校,同友人创办《十月》、《街》等杂志。1923年参加菊池宽创办的《文艺春秋》，发表了《蝇》和《太阳》,引起文学界的注目。 1924年,横光同川端康成等人创办《文艺时代》,发起了“新感觉派”运动。他的短篇小说《头与腹》和长篇小说《上海》(1931)被认为具有新感觉派风格的作品。1930年发表《机械》，开始转向新心理主义。主要作品还有《家徽》(1934)、《旅愁》(1946)等。小说《蝇》描写一辆满载形形色色乘客的马车，突然偏离山路，连人带马堕入深渊；在这过程中，从马背飞出一只大眼苍蝇，苍蝇的眼里映现出一个特大的马腹。《太阳》描写上古时代有许多王子把美丽的耶马台国女王卑弥呼比作太阳而拜倒在她的裙下的故事。 横光提倡新文学以快速的节奏和特殊的表现为基础，从理想的感觉出发进行创作。在手法上,受表现派、结构主义及乔伊斯的意识流的影响,大多采用心理分析方法描写人物的内心世界。后期转向传统主义。
